This SFA emphasizes the growing significance of universities’ engagement with society. It acknowledges the interrelated opportunities and challenges posed by sustainable development, including the United Nations’ Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and continental and regional plans. Collaboration among higher education institutions, as well as partnerships with communities, public sectors, and private sectors, is crucial for addressing sustainable development challenges through teaching, research, and innovation. SARUA provides a platform for engagement and collaboration among SADC HEIs, enabling them to address regional challenges and support national higher education systems.
