Introduction and background

SARUA has completed the INTRA-ACP programme on Climate Change funded by the European Union and administered by the Southern African Development Corporation through its Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA+).

The programme was designed and developed by a group of climate academics across the SADC with integrated monitoring and evaluation at every phase of the project. The programme consisted of (1) Developing material and hosting capacity development activities in Climate Change and Sustainable Development as well as (2) identifying and developing a suitable digital ecosystem where the material can be hosted. The Climate Change and Sustainable Development material available consists of the following three aspects.

The material is available to any HEI in the SADC free of charge. The material can be accessed by following the registration prompts in the below.

Southern African Master’s Curriculum in Climate Change and Sustainable Development

The curriculum is pitched at a master’s level following a transdisciplinary approach to allow for different academic pathways through the curriculum.

The material is available in the three SADC languages, namely English, French and Portuguese. The master’s programme consists of a programme description document, FIVE elective modules and SEVEN elective modules.

Short Learning Programmes in Climate Change and Sustainable Development

Two short learning programmes were targeted at decision makers in the government and private sectors who need a better understanding of key concepts of climate change. The key concepts were identified as (1) Foundations of Climate Change Science and Sustainable Development and (2) Climate policies and Governance. These programmes do not require any prior knowledge to climate change.

The Short Learning Programmes each consist of a description of the material covered and a link to the video recording of the Short Learning Programme.
