Description
This webinar will explore how the SADC Research Uptake Strategy can strengthen the translation of research into policy, practice and impact across the region. It will focus on advancing knowledge uptake as a driver of sustainability, regional integration and inclusive development in Southern Africa.
Background
The SADC region faces a dual challenge: translating academic research into actionable impact and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the context of regional priorities. While research outputs are increasing across Southern Africa, their real-world uptake and influence on policy, industry and society remain limited. The SADC Research Uptake Strategy provides a vital roadmap for addressing this gap by strengthening the ecosystem for knowledge translation, research dissemination and evidence-informed decision-making. SARUA is convening this webinar to bring together researchers, policy-makers, university leaders, funders and innovation stakeholders to explore how to enhance research uptake as a tool for sustainability, regional integration and inclusive development.
Purpose
To stimulate dialogue on institutional and regional mechanisms that foster knowledge-to-action by introducing and contextualising the SADC Research Uptake Strategy.
Expected outcomes
- Increased awareness and engagement with the SADC Research Uptake Strategy.
- Shared understanding of mechanisms for knowledge translation and use.
- Strengthened networks for collaborative implementation and sustainability.
- A summary report outlining key recommendations from the discussion.
Target audience
University leadership, directors of research and innovation, government and regional policymakers, funding agencies, civil society and industry stakeholders, early-career and senior researchers.
