Incentives for Conducting Societally Impactful Research Community of Practice (SIR CoP) Meeting

In this Community of Practice for Societally Impactful Research, we explore the layers of the incentives and barriers for conducting societally impactful research – based on our SADC-wide survey.
We ask: who experiences which kinds of barriers, whether they stem from institutional constraints, funding limitations, disciplinary silos or broader societal and cultural challenges, and how best – if at all – can we reduce these barriers to foster a more inclusive, supportive environment for societally impactful research.
Through this exploration, we aim to identifyspecific obstacles faced by diverse groups within the research community, understand the nuances of these challenges and collaboratively design strategies or policy recommendations that can meaningfully lower these barriers, encouraging a research culture that prioritises research that is societally impactful.
