Background and rationale
SADC faces a dual challenge: a rapidly growing youth population grappling with unemployment and the escalating effects of climate change threatening ecosystems, economies and livelihoods. Yet, within these challenges lie unique opportunities. The transition to a green economy offers new employment pathways, especially for youth, provided they are equipped with the right skills, education and support systems.
Objectives of the roundtable
To explore the intersection of climate change, youth empowerment and economic transformation in Southern Africa, identifying innovative educational models, research initiatives and policies that promote youth employment through climate-responsive solutions.
Outcomes
To create a platform for youth voices, innovators, educators and policymakers to engage on pathways to a just green transition.
